Rep. Smith Rubbishes CDC Youth League Allegation -Says he didn’t receive $25,000 from Cummings

Africa-PressLiberia. Following a press conference by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Youth League on the 11 of August 2021, linking the Montserrado County District #2 Lawmaker Ltc. Jimmy W. Smith a senior member of the ruling CDC to an allegation of receiving $25,000 United States Dollars from the political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, the office of the lawmaker has described such allegations as unscrupulous, misleading, deceptive and disingenuous by the CDC Youth League.
Responding to the CDC Youth League press conference on Monday Aug. 16, 2021 at the District office in paynesville Somalia Drive outside Monrovia, the Chief of Office Staff to Rep. Smith, Mr. Alfred D. Tokpah said the office of Rep. Jimmy W. Smith saw such a statement as an insult and a complete disrespect from the Youth League towards the legislator.
Topkpah noted that at no point did Rep. Smith and the ANC Political leader Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, including any other leader of the opposition, ever had a conversation of any kind including telephone talk or hand shake neither has Rep. Smith ever sanctioned or regulated any activity of the Youth League or member of the Youth League either at the national or at district level.
He said the office of Rep. Smith classifies such allegations from the Youth League as a proxy ploy that is meant to cause division within the party and to put both the party and President George M. Weah against Rep. Smith who he said is so much involved with the promotion of the government Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) through Youth transformation, Women empowerment, and self-help community based initiatives.
He therefore called on the party National Executive Committee of the CDC to speedily investigate the matter and publicly discipline whoever is found guilty.
“We see this statement from the CDC Youth League as an insult and a complete disrespect towards a stalwart of the CDC and therefore calling on the National Executive Committee of the Party to speedily investigate this issue publicly and discipline the progenitor of said loose talks and hateful ideas that is meant to disintegrate the party at the detriment of Rep. Smith reputation,” He said
The Chief of Office Staff asserted that Rep. Smith is a former law enforcement officer and respects the law and he is a disciplinary as such would not support acts of indiscipline least to say anyone insulting the president.
He also lamented that they are aware of elements in CDC that are close to the ears of the President and using such influences to undermine Rep. Smith by deliberately creating havoc between Rep. Smith, the party, and the president eyeing the 2023 election to the detriment of Rep. Smith, which he said will prove counterproductive.
The accusation against the District#2 Montserrado County Lawmaker was followed when the CDC Youth League expelled the district# 2 Youth coordinator and staffer at the Office of Rep. Smith, Jose Tarnue who the Youth League accused of been used by Rep. Smith to have collected the $25,000 from Mr. Alexander B. Cummings to instigate confusion in the CDC.
