Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia Football Association’s upper women’s outfit, Shaita Angels FC, saw their hopes of ending the season on a high become a reality on Saturday, April 13, after defeating World Girls FC in the LFA Orange Cup Final at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. World Girls, who recently gained promotion to the LFA Upper Women’s League, proved many football lovers wrong, as they gave the upper women’s side a good run for their money.

Prior to the match, many fans thought that Shaita Angels would outplay the Lower League side, World Girls, but after the sound of the whistle, it was a different story. World Girls held the Careysburg-based club to a goalless first half and produced some spectacular displays. After several missed chances from both clubs, the Caresburg-based women’s football club, Shaita Angels FC, put the biggest smiles on the faces of their supporters as they defeated World Girls in the final of the 2023/2024 LFA Orange Women’s Cup at the ATS.

Both teams entertained the fans in the stands, only to go to penalty kicks to decide who walks away with the trophy. Shaita Angels proved that penalties were their forte as they scored four out of five to beat World Girls, who missed two of their penalties. Shaita Angels FC were arguably backed by their amazing fans who made the loudest noise in the stands cheering their ladies. Spectators were not disappointed with the performances of the two teams in the women’s final. It’s the first major trophy for Shaita FC, founded a few years ago.

Speaking to the media, Shaita Angels goalkeeper Lovetee Pratt said her recent performance in the league is the result of hard work and determination. “I’m proud of my current performance in the Liberian league. When I joined Shaita Angels Football Club, I was the third-choice goalkeeper. It’s surprising to see myself performing so well. I owe this success to our president, Benita Whitney Urey, who always encouraged me to strive for more. She always tells me not to be complacent because I have the potential to become the best goalkeeper in the league. I’m grateful to her and the fans who came out to support Shaita Angels Football Club,” Lovetee said.
