Africa-Press – Liberia. APC Aspirant Sheik Kamara’s Initiative Aims to Unite Diaspora, Targets Liberian Youth Drug Rehabilitation

Monrovia – A friendly football match, organized and sponsored by an aspiring politician from Sierra Leone’s opposition All People’s Congress (APC), is scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the D. Tweh Sports Ground in New Kru Town, Bushrod Island, Montserrado County.

The initiative is being spearheaded by APC aspirant Sheik Alhagi Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, as part of a regional effort to unite Sierra Leoneans living abroad through sports.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FrontPage Africa, Hassan U. Kabbah, the West Africa Coordinator for Mr. Kamara, explained that the tournament will feature teams composed of Sierra Leoneans residing in Liberia, as well as players traveling from Sierra Leone.

Focus on Youth Rehabilitation

Following the match, organizers are scheduled to officially launch the “Jagaban Foundation Liberia.” The foundation aims to support rehabilitation programs for Liberian youth struggling with addiction, particularly those affected by the synthetic drug known as Kush.

According to Kabbah, the foundation intends to operate as a “center of excellence,” offering counseling and support services designed to help vulnerable youth stay away from drugs and destructive behavior while preparing them for productive futures.

Kabbah disclosed that similar “get-together tournaments” will be held across other West African countries where Sierra Leoneans reside, with the broader goal of fostering unity, education, and cooperation among the diaspora.

Political Preparations Underway

Mr. Kamara, who is expected to be a main candidate for the APC in Sierra Leone’s 2028 general and presidential elections, is using the regional outreach to engage the diaspora.

“Our boss, aspirant Kamara alias Jagaban is expected to contest as a main candidate for the APC in Sierra Leone’s 2028 general and presidential elections,” Kabbah noted. “As part of preparations, he and other APC members are engaging Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora so that we can put our house in order ahead of the challenges before us.”

The program will conclude at Conneh Yard in Vai Town, Bushrod Island, where Sheik Kamara is expected to hold an open meeting with Liberia-based Sierra Leoneans—

regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnic background to explain the purpose of his visit and outline the foundation’s plans.
