Africa-Press – Liberia. Following nearly 18 months of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Sinoe forest company and Tartweh Authorized Forest for harvesting logs, the company is said kick off building a modern concrete bridge valued at US$44,000.
The company’s management told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Greenville at the weekend that the bridge project is in compliance with the MOU signed with the people of Tartweh in Sinoe County.
Some residents of Tartweh in an exclusive interview with LINA lauded the company for meeting up with its social corporate responsibility, adding that since the formation of the chiefdom, the bridge under construction is the first modern one over the Planzon River.
David Sawonee and Esther Sokan, both of whom are members of the chiefdom, have expressed delight over the latest development by the Sino Forest Company.
Meanwhile, the company through it Human Resource manager, Emmanuel Saywon, told LINA that the company remains committed to its commitment with the forest dependents of Tartweh, adding that more projects captured in the MOU are also expected to begin.
Saywon said while it is true that the company is yet to begin full logging operations, among others, that call for the shipment of consignments of logs, the bridge is a major challenge affecting the smooth movement of the people.
He said it will also enable the company to have access as part of extension to some forest land captured in the agreement.
The Planzon River Bridge got damaged since the 1990s as a result of the civil conflict and has been causing serious problem to access to free movement.
The bridge also links upper and lower Tartweh as well the Drapo area that is border with River Gee County on the south with the Atlantic Ocean.
The bridge, when completed, will bring total relief to the well-being of citizens in the areas by providing easy access to make pliable the road for vehicles in the area.
Sinoe Forest is a Chinese-Liberian partnership company that met the full legal requirements to carry out logging operations in Liberia with Sinoe’s district number one lawmaker Crayton Oman Duncan as shareholder.
About 37kolometers away from the port city of Greenville, Tartweh is a chiefdom, situated on the left bank of the Sinoe River, and falls within the Kpanyan Statutory District.
