Africa-Press – Liberia. The National County Sports Meet Organizing Committee has confirmed that the high-stakes Group D preliminary encounter between Bong and Montserrado counties will resume on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex.

The decision follows the dramatic discontinuation of the match in Bopolu City over the weekend.

According to organizers, kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. The match will restart from the 25th minute the exact point at which play was halted at the Bopolu City Sports Pitch on Saturday, December 20.

Violence in Bopolu

The original fixture was abandoned following significant crowd disturbances involving fans of the host county, Gbarpolu.

Spectators disrupted play amid allegations that Bong and Montserrado were attempting to “fix” the result.

Rumors had circulated that the two teams planned to settle for a high-scoring draw specifically a 2–2 or 3–3 result that would allow both to advance to the next round at the expense of Gbarpolu.

At the time of the interruption, Montserrado held a 2–1 lead in a fast-paced contest that had already produced three goals.

Citing security concerns and an inability to restore order on the pitch, match officials made the call to discontinue the game for the safety of the players and staff.

High Stakes and Qualification Scenarios

In a statement issued Monday evening, the Organizing Committee urged both counties to coordinate with their technical staffs and supporters regarding the new venue to ensure a smooth transition.

The rescheduled match serves as a decisive Group D finale. The current standings are as follows:

County Points Status

Montserrado 2 Currently leading 2–1

Gbarpolu 2 Completed group play

Bong 1 Must chase a result

With the match resuming with Montserrado leading 2–1, the pressure is on Bong to overturn the deficit.

Montserrado needs only to maintain their lead or secure a draw to advance.

However, if the match ends in a 3–3 draw as fans in Gbarpolu feared both teams would progress, knocking the host county out of the tournament.

Gbarpolu now finds itself in the uncomfortable position of watching from the sidelines.

The Western Liberian side requires a definitive win from either Bong or Montserrado to keep its hopes of progression alive.

Security Beefed Up at SKD

Officials have assured the public that heightened security and administrative measures will be in place at the SKD Sports Complex.

The move to the national stadium is intended to utilize its larger capacity and superior crowd-control infrastructure to prevent a repeat of the chaos seen in Bopolu.

The Bong Montserrado clash remains the most talked-about fixture of the preliminary rounds.

Tuesday’s resumption is expected to draw a massive crowd as the fate of Group D is finally decided on the pitch.
