Speaker Koffa Refuses to Recognize Koon’s Leadership, Awaits Supreme Court Ruling

Africa-Press – Liberia. In the midst of a bitter leadership dispute, embattled House Speaker Fonati Koffa has declared he will not recognize the authority of Majority Bloc Speaker Richard Koon until the Supreme Court delivers a ruling on a legal challenge filed regarding Koon’s ascendancy.

Koffa’s legal team submitted a bill of information to the Supreme Court, seeking a constitutional interpretation of the Majority Bloc’s decision to Koffa him from office and elect Koon as the new Speaker.

Koffa firmly stated that participating in sessions under Koon’s leadership while the case remains unresolved would effectively legitimize Koon’s Speakership, a step he vehemently opposes.

Upon his return to Liberia on Saturday, Koffa addressed the press, reiterating his position and emphasizing that he is awaiting the court’s decision on the contentious leadership dispute.

The Speaker was welcomed by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters at Roberts International Airport, further heightening the already tense political climate surrounding the House of Representatives.

Koffa’s return has the potential to intensify the ongoing battle for control of the legislature, as the dispute over leadership continues to unfold.
