Africa-Press – Liberia. Truth FM’s female sports reporter Naomi Tappia Monday earned a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from University of Liberia Graduate School.
“What an adventure to remember! Let me publicly appreciate our creator Jehovah for the achievement as he is a God who nothing is impossible with once you have faith in him,” Tappia wrote on her official social media handle. “Thanks to my sister Ruth Tappia and her husband Joseph Alexander Clarry who supported me financially during this journey. I will remain grateful to you all for your intangible support as well. Your best wishes offered daily on my behalf in prayers are honestly appreciated by me. The sky is not even my limit as education has no limit.”
Tappia was one of hundreds of graduates at the 102nd Combined Commencement Convocation from the University of Liberia Graduate and Professional Schools.
It has been quite an amazing journey for the broadcast female sports journalist after returning from Guinea, where she earned her High School Diploma from the St Mary’s High School in Nzérékoré, the second largest city in Guinea in 2006, where she lived as a refugee.
After returning to Liberia, she later enrolled at the United Methodist University and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Public Administration in 2015.
Ms. Tappia, one of few female sports journalists in Liberia, later embarked on her journalism journey at the Renaissance Communications Incorporated (RCI), owner of Truth FM, thanks to Journalist Abraham Wheon who recruited Naomi into the sports reporting field.
She has had a remarkable time at RCI as a reporter and was later appointed to the role as Head of the Sports Department at Truth FM in 2018, a position she currently holds.
In 2019, she was granted the opportunity of being one the fellows of the International Visitation Leadership Program (IVLP) organized by the United States Department of State. She was one of 48 women from different countries across the globe to form part of the fellowship.
As recognized by the US Embassy near Monrovia, Ms. Tappia advocates for the personal development of young girls, encourages them to raise their hands in class, take leadership roles in schools and evolve into active community members. She recognizes how athletic programs reinforce academics, and serves as a shining example of how women can succeed in typically male-dominated fields.
Ms. Tappia also serves as Financial Secretary for the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWA), FIBA Africa Head of Media Council for Zone Three that comprises 9 different countries in West Africa, and Managing Editor of AfricaWorld Newspaper and Magazine.
