Africa-Press – Liberia. The Thomas P. Fallah University College (TPFUC), has officially opened the doors of its magnificent and plush campus to hundreds of students as the institution commences its maiden semester.
The administration of the gigantic 75-classroom university showcased its serene learning environment to its student population as well as its rules and guidelines when it had an orientation for them on October 12, 2021, in Paynesville.
Popularly known as (T-FIVE), TPFUC, which is located along the SKD Boulevard, 72nd Community, Paynesville, welcomed a total of three hundred students on October 18, 2021, for its maiden semester.
In an effort to provide quality and affordable education to young Liberians, the institution runs five colleges across 18 major academic disciplines, authorities said.
“This University will emphasize not only on the acquisition of knowledge but also the development of vital skills,” Acting President, Dr. Samuel G. Toe, told students in attendance at the orientation.
He described the university as a “great 21st Century project.”
With its motto: “Education for Nation Building,” Dr. Toe said with the help of other stakeholders, “We want to ensure that Liberia can once again become a bastion for Liberal learning in Africa and the center for knowledge production, just as it once was.” “You can be assured of this,” he added.
“We value our students here at TPFUC, and as such will deliver to them the requisite best academic content needed to produce the best brains in Liberia.”
He lauded the “exceptional vision” and foresight of the University’s founder and benefactor, Montserrado County District #5 Representative, Thomas P. Fallah.
“Hon. Fallah is a social entrepreneur whose life experiences of material scarcity as a young man in college propelled him to a personal commitment of making quality tertiary education more assessable and affordable to all Liberian youth,” Dr. Toe said.
Upon welcoming the students and expressing appreciation for choosing his institution, Dr. Toe said, “my office is opened to all students, you can feel free to stop by and issues relating to academic works can be discussed at any given time.”
At the end of the orientation program, the students were accompanied on a guided tour of the university’s facilities.
Led by the Vice President for Administration, Joseph T. Giddings, Sr., and Dean of Admissions, Records, and Registrations, Momo B. Kamara, the students toured the library, science laboratory, and digital learning center,
“These facilities promise the most conducive environment in 21st Century learning,” VPA Giddings noted.
Representatives of the student body lauded TPFUC administration for the cordial reception accorded while expressing optimism for a good working relationship.
“We also want to call on our fellow students to prioritize their education as their parents. Our families and society are looking up to us to contribute positively to the growth and development of our country,” the representatives admonished their colleagues.
After a rigorous assessment process of its facilities and initial faculty members by the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE), the University was deemed sufficiently prepared and was early this year granted a license to operate a two (2) years Associate of Arts Degree program in five (5) approved colleges.
Authorities of the university disclosed that upon attaining other benchmarks required by NCHE, a further determination will be made by NCHE for a full-fledged bachelor’s degree program.
In its first two years, the university will offer Associate degrees across five colleges and 18 disciplines. These include the College of Agriculture and Forestry, with majors in Agriculture and Forestry; The College of Business and Public Administration, with majors, Accounting, Management, Business Entrepreneurship, Economics & Statistics, Management, and Public Administration and the College of Education & Liberal Arts and Education, with majors in Primary and Secondary Education, Education Administration, Sociology and Criminal Justice.
Others are the College of Public Health and Environmental Sciences, with majors in Public Health and Environmental Science, and the College of Engineering and Information Technology (IT), with majors in Civil Engineering, Building Construction, and Information Technology.
The University also has a unique flagship Digital Learning Center (DLC), perhaps the first of its kind in Liberia. Fitted with state-of-the-art computers and digital equipment, the DLC will facilitate distance learning via the internet, and connect students and faculties with instructors and other learners globally.
It also forms the fulcrum of the University’s special Advanced Professional, and Skills Development Program tailored specifically towards the labor market.
