Africa-Press – Liberia. Newly appointed manager Carlos Queiroz has named his first Egypt squad set to face Liberia in a friendly next Thursday. Queiroz took over as the new Egypt manager to replace the sacked Hossam El-Badry and The Portuguese’s first mission will be a double-encounter against Libya in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
To prepare for the two crucial games, Queiroz has requested the EFA to prepare a friendly against Liberia in order to take another look at some players ahead of the qualifiers.
Last week, the EFA released the list of the foreign-based players set to join the squad, with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah leading the list, which also included Sam Morsy, Omar Marmoush, and Karim Hafez.
And it looks like the new names won’t stop here as Queiroz decided to call up three uncapped players to the domestic squad, namely Pyramids FC’s Ibrahim Adel, Mohand Lashin of El-Gaish, and Pharco FC keeper Mohamed Sobhi.
The squad also witnessed the regular names of Mohamed El-Shennawy, Mahmoud El-Wensh, Ayman Ashraf, Amr El-Sulya, Tarek Hamed, Abdellah El-Said, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Ramadan Sobhi, and Mohamed Sherif.
On the other hand, Al Ahly duo Salah Mohsen and Hussein El-Shahat were dropped from the squad despite their recent impressive performances as well as Omar Gaber, who recently joined El-Gaish.
Full squad: Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shennawy (Al Ahly SC), Mohamed Abou-Gabal (Zamalek SC), Mohamed Bassam (Tala’a El-Gaish), Mohamed Sobhi (Pharco FC).
Defenders: Ahmed Fetouh, Mohamed Abdelshafy, Mahmoud El-Wensh (Zamalek SC), Ayman Ashraf, Akram Tawfik (Al Ahly SC), Ali Gaber, Ahmed Tawfik (Pyramids FC), Baher Elmohamady (Ismaily SC).
Midfielders: Hamdi Fathi, Amr El-Sulya, Mohamed Magdy Afsha (Al Ahly SC), Tarek Hamed, Mostafa Fathi, Ahmed Sayed Zizo (Zamalek SC), Mohanad Lashin, Ahmed Samir (Tala’a El-Gaish), Abdallah El-Said, Ramadan Sobhi, Ibrahim Adel (Pyramids FC).
Forwards: Mohamed Sherif (Al Ahly SC). The training camp will start on Tuesday at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, with the friendly game taking place two days later.
