Africa-Press – Liberia. The Chairman of the ruling Unity Party(UP), Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has disclosed that the ruling party maintains a strong and productive working relationship with its collaborating political parties.
Speaking over the weekend on Punch FM in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia, Rev. Tarpeh said the UP values its political partnerships and ensures that allies benefit from what he described as “profound political dividends.”
In the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, several political parties — including the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) led by the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson and the Liberty Party — supported the presidential bid of Joseph Nyuma Boakai. Their support contributed significantly to Boakai’s victory.
“We do not deceive our political partners as the CDC did during their regime. The records are there of the Unity Party’s magnanimous gestures to her political allies,” Rev. Tarpeh said.
He added that parties such as the LP, MDR, and other political parties continue to enjoy the confidence of the ruling party and appreciate what he termed the Unity Party’s political maturity.
Rev. Tarpeh criticized the CDC for positioning itself as a viable contender for the 2029 elections, arguing that the former ruling party had failed the Liberian people.
“It is unthinkable that CDC, having failed the Liberian people, is now parading itself as the political messiah for 2029,” he said.
He further accused CDC leaders of seeking a return to power for personal gain rather than national development.
“Are they insinuating that they want state power because they love the Liberian people? Of course not! They want to come back to deplete our national resources for their lavish lifestyles,” Rev. Tarpeh asserted.
The Unity Party Chairman also called on supporters and leaders of opposition parties to join the governing party, arguing that the opposition stands little chance of winning the 2029 elections.
“I want to reiterate that since you have a slim chance due to your failed leadership in the past, come to the Unity Party and we will treat you like real political allies,” he said.
Rev. Tarpeh concluded by stating that the only political future for opposition parties lies in aligning with the Unity Party, promising opportunities and inclusion for those who choose to join.
“The only future that the opposition has is to join the Unity Party. Let them join, and we will give them jobs,” he added.
