UP Caucus Replies Bility In Defense of Terminal Storage Fees

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Unity Party (UP) Legislative Caucus at the House of Representatives has categorically rejected and strongly condemned recent statement made by Representative Musa Bility, criticizing the decision of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) to reduce terminal storage fees for petroleum products from 35 cents United States Dollars to 0.2 cents at the LPRC.

In defense of the LPRC’s action, s comments are not only reckless and deceptive, but clearly expose his narrow, selfish agenda at the expense of the Liberian people.

In a statement under the signature of Caucus Chairman Representative Robert F. Womba, the UP Legislative Caucus said it is shameful that at a time when the Government, through the LPRC is taking bold and deliberate steps to ease the economic burden on ordinary Liberians, a sitting lawmaker would openly oppose such a progressive policy.

“The Caucus would like to inform Representative Bility that the LPRC’s action to slash storage fees is designed to reduce costs in the petroleum sector, stabilize the market, and ensure that businesses and consumers alike benefit from fairer pricing. This is a people centered decision that aligns with the Unity Party government under the capable leadership of President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, which Representative Bility should have been championing if his concern were truly about the Liberian people,” read the statement.

According to the UP Caucus, Representative Bility’s ‘desperate’ attempt to condemn this move only underscores his vested interest in protecting his business and own gains, while ignoring the harsh realities faced by the struggling citizens.

Representative Womba, on behalf of the Caucus reminded Representative Bility, who himself is a tank owner at the LPRC, that the LPRC does not serve an individual interest, but the interest of the Liberian people. His attempt to politicize and undermine a decision taken in good faith and in the national interest is nothing more than a betrayal of the very people he was elected to represent.

The UP Legislative Caucus at the House through its Chairman called on all Liberians to see Representative Bility’s statement as a selfish outburst aimed at protecting his business and personal benefits rather than advancing the collective good.

The Unity Party government under President Boakai will remain steadfast in its mandate to implement policies that will make the Liberian people’s lives better, and no amount of political grandstanding or self-centered noise will distract us from this mission.

Representative Musa Bility must also be reminded that standing against this decision is not only standing against the Boakai’s government and the LPRC, but rather, he is standing against the people of Liberia.
