Africa-Press – Liberia. The Unity Party Legislative Caucus in the House of Representatives has praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for his decisive endorsement of the Strategic Petroleum Import Policy.
The policy, spearheaded by the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) Board of Directors, grants the LPRC the authority to directly import petroleum products into the country—an effort aimed at improving supply, cutting out middlemen, and stabilizing market prices.
In a statement issued under the signature of its Chairman, Bong County District #4 Representative Robert Flomo Womba, the Caucus described the move as a major step toward strengthening Liberia’s energy security.
“This strategic policy shift marks a significant step towards strengthening Liberia’s energy security, reducing dependency on middlemen, and ultimately ensuring the availability of petroleum products at a more stable and affordable rate for Liberians,” the statement said.
The Caucus also applauded the LPRC for its initial success in importing 10,000 metric tons of petroleum products, citing the achievement as a clear sign of the policy’s effectiveness and immediate impact.
“President Boakai’s visionary leadership and commitment to practical solutions that enhance the livelihoods of ordinary Liberians are praised by Representative Womba on behalf of the Caucus,” the statement added.
The Caucus further noted that the President’s action demonstrates his commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development through a stronger public sector.
In addition, the UP Caucus congratulated LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh for what it called his innovative leadership and tireless efforts to ensure a steady supply of petroleum products on the Liberian market.
The statement concluded: “The UP Legislative Caucus confirms its full support for the President’s agenda and is prepared to collaborate with the Executive and relevant institutions to ensure that this policy remains beneficial to all citizens, promotes market stability, and fosters economic resilience in the energy sector.”
