WASH Commission Investigates Diamond Water Contamination

Africa-Press – Liberia. The National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Commission (NWASHC) says it has launched an investigation into a recent social media video alleging contamination of Diamond Mineral Water, one of Liberia’s leading bottled water brands.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the Commission said it takes such reports seriously, given its statutory responsibility to ensure water quality and safety across the country.

“The Commission has immediately launched an investigation into the matter,” said Morris G. Gono Jr., Executive Director of the WASH Commission.

The Commission reminded the public that this is not the first time similar claims have circulated online. In April 2025, a video making comparable allegations against another company was found to be an old recording that had been recirculated multiple times, sparking unnecessary public concern. That investigation, according to the Commission, revealed that the company involved was operating within acceptable hygiene and safety standards.

Since then, the Commission says it has continued to strengthen oversight of water producers, working closely with the Ministry of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) to enforce compliance with national water quality standards.

“Our inspectors are currently on the field, conducting follow-up inspections and sampling to verify the company’s compliance status and ensure the safety of water being produced for public consumption,” the statement added.

The WASH Commission further assured the public that it has already engaged the management of Diamond Mineral Water and relevant partners regarding the latest allegation. A full-scale investigation is ongoing, and the findings will be made public once completed.

Meanwhile, the Commission cautioned the public against spreading unverified videos or claims that could create unnecessary fear or panic.

“The WASH Commission remains committed to protecting public health and ensuring that every Liberian has access to safe, clean, and quality drinking water,” Gono emphasized.
