Africa-Press – Liberia. The Government of Liberia and members of the Western Liberia Legislative Caucus have begun coordinated discussions aimed at mobilizing resources for the Western Liberia Development Agenda (WLDA 2026–2028)—a major regional investment initiative expected to channel US$17.27 million into development projects across Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties.

The high-level meeting, held yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together members of the Western Legislative Caucus and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, who serves as President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s focal person for the Western Liberia Development Agenda.

Members of the Western Legislative Caucus include Bomi County Senator Alex J. Tyler, Senator Amara Konneh of Gbarpolu, Dabah M. Varpilah of Grand Cape Mount County and Gbassey Sonii of Grand Cape Mount County, among others.

According to a statement from the Caucus, the WLDA seeks to translate the President’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID 2024–2029) into regionally aligned programs that promote economic inclusion, infrastructure growth, and balanced national development in the western corridor of Liberia.

Under the plan, the total investment of US$17.27 million for the three-year period (2026–2028) will be sourced from multiple funding streams, including national budget allocations tied to ARREST-aligned programs, County Social Development Funds (SDF) and County Development Funds (CDF), external partners and private sector co-financing, and the establishment of a WLDA Regional Fund pooled from contributions by the three counties.

The WLDA is designed to integrate local innovation and community priorities into the national transformation process, ensuring that development investments reflect the needs of citizens while directly advancing the six pillars of the AAID — Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.

Speaking during the meeting, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the Caucus and other government institutions to align Western Liberia’s regional development priorities with national policies.

She emphasized that the Boakai Administration remains determined to foster inclusive economic growth, where regional development programs like the WLDA are not just government-driven but also community-owned and impact-focused.

“The Western Liberia Development Agenda reflects President Boakai’s vision of ensuring that no region is left behind,” Minister Beysolow-Nyanti noted. “By aligning our regional efforts with the national ARREST Agenda, we are setting the stage for sustainable growth and empowerment in Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties.”

Members of the Western Liberia Legislative Caucus lauded Minister Beysolow-Nyanti for her proactive leadership and strategic coordination role. They emphasized the importance of a united approach among the three counties to attract investment, boost infrastructure, and expand access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

The Caucus expressed optimism that the WLDA will not only strengthen regional economic cooperation but also accelerate service delivery through better alignment of public and private resources. In a joint statement, the lawmakers said:

“We thank Minister Beysolow-Nyanti for her leadership and for ensuring that Western Liberia remains a key part of the national conversation on inclusive development. This agenda represents a major opportunity for our people, and we are committed to making it work for every citizen in our three counties.”

The Caucus and Minister Beysolow-Nyanti also agreed to convene a follow-up meeting next week with key sectoral ministers — including Finance and Development Planning, Health, Education, Agriculture, Public Works, and the Tourism Bureau — to align sectoral priorities and finalize the WLDA implementation roadmap.

This inter-ministerial session will define concrete actions, funding mechanisms, and project timelines for the first phase of the 2026–2028 investment cycle, ensuring that programs remain fully integrated with the national budget and development framework.
