WONGOSOL Wants Law Enacted for Women Least 30% Of All National Elected Offices

Africa-Press – Liberia. A Local Women Civil society group, “Women’s NGO Secretariat of Liberia” (WONGOSOL) established as an organ for coordinating the activities of women organizations in Liberia in1998, is leading a campaign for a law to be enacted to mandated for women to occupy at least 30% of all national elected offices and leadership positions in political parties.

“The only and biggest leadership positions given to women in all the Political parties is head of women wing of that party this I believed is not fair and must stop,” Madam Salue said.

According to her, women are equally then even some of their men counterpart noting that there is a need that law be enacted to compel political parties for women to occupy at least 30% of all national elected offices and leadership positions in political parties.

Speaking in an interview with Reporters in Monrovia Wednesday December 15, 2021, Madam Williet L. Salue, Acting Program said currently women are not occupying major positions or leadership positions in all the political parties in Liberia despite their active works in their various political parties and expressed the believed that this proposed law will compel each Political parties to occupy at least 30% of all national elected offices and leadership positions in political parties.

WONGOSOL is a network of 104 organizations committed to ending violence against women and achieving gender equality in Liberia. … Our programs support gender equality and women’s empowerment in Liberia.

Madam Salue also under scored the need for an adjustment and fair Liberia society in place where men and women will be given the opportunity to equally participate in and benefit from in a decision-making process at all level.

Madam Salue disclosed that currently WONGOSOL is a manifestation of their campaign for to occupy at least 30% of all national elected offices and leadership positions in political parties they have begun holding a four-day women political and leadership project aim at improving women’s Representation at the Liberian legislature.

She noted that, this forum which is taking place at the Monrovia City Hall brings together legislative staff and policy makers of the Legislature branch of the Liberian government.

Madam Salue noted that WONGOSOL is using the forum to build the capacity of the technical staffs of the Legislature branch of the Liberian government to be gender inclusive and gender sensitive in their policy making in all of the workings.
