Africa-Press – Liberia. Fashion school grads here have been described as economic architects that should go out and shape their destiny.
Montserrado County District#1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry has inspired graduates of the LA Princess Fashion Academy, describing members of the graduating class as economic architects, who must go out and shape their destiny.
Addressing the second graduation exercise of the Fashion School, Rep. Barry reminded the grads that they are not just fashion designers, but entrepreneurs, who must utilize their skills to contribute to economic growth.
“Let me remind you; my young friends, you are not just fashion designers; you are Economic Architects. Go out there and design your future, shape your destiny and stitch prosperity into the fabric of our nation”, Rep. Barry told the graduates.
She urged them to make full use of the skills acquired to build their own future as they forge into the world of possibilities.
“Let your talent becomes a business; let your name becomes a brand. The Sewing Machine is in your hand, let it become your asset, and take you to where you want to be”, Rep. Barry urged.
She explained that wealth is not just about money, but value creation, self-reliance and lifting others along the way.
“The machine is in your hand, start a business, start small, have a vision, have a plan and have the courage to continue, in the midst of challenges. This is how we fight poverty; not with handouts, but with hands that know how to work and minds that know how to create”, she charged the graduates.
“As you build your brand and attract customers, you will soon need partners and employees, this is how we grow our economy”, she added.
Rep. Barry then reflected on her own journey from scratch, as a woman selling a bag of cassava to owing processing factories, before becoming a Representation of the people.
“Before I became a Representative, I started a small business and grew the business over the years, creating employment for others. I did not rely on my master graduate to go looking for job. I worked hard to grow my business and today, Liberia Business Incubator is a leading name in Cassava processing and value addition”, she reflected.
The Montserrado County District #1 lawmaker commended the LA Princess Fashion Academy for building what she described as major tools for economic empowerment, especially for women and youths, who are often left out of the formal Labor market.
According to her, fashion design is much more than an art; it is an engine of economic transformation. It empowers individuals, stimulates entrepreneurship, drives local industry and shows culture to the world.
“LA Princess Fashion, you have done a great work, and in doing so, it contributes significantly to wealth creation and sustainable economic development of our nation.” She commended.
At least 15 beautiful young Liberian ladies graduated from the LA Princess Fashion Academy (LPFA) with Graduate Cynthia Rogers, emerging as STAR Girl of the Year and best performing Fashion Student. She received a cash award of 50,000 Liberian dollars.
Speaking briefly, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Founder of LPFA, Princess Pratt, hailed the graduates for their dedication and commitment to excellence.
“In your everyday life, use the skills we have learned here, and embrace today’s challenges with agility, flexibility, curiosity, openness, and compassion”, she urged.
Members of the graduating class include Marolyne N. Elliott, Joan Sheriff, Williemena Reeves, Princess Tuwle, Yassah Z. Coleman, Sara T. W. Dougan, Roosetta Barsigiah, and Cynthia Rogers, among others. They demonstrated their fashion styles on stage before huge audience in the Ball Room of the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
