Africa-Press – Malawi. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC, under the leadership of head coach Mark Harrison, showcased dominance in a goalless draw against Bullets in the highly anticipated Blantyre derby at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Harrison expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, emphasizing that they were the better side throughout the match.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, Wanderers FC was unable to convert them into goals.
“We diminated the game for a significant portion, particularly in the first 15 minutes, and generated a lot of chances to secure a victory. I believe Bullets did not pose a significant threat this afternoon. If we can continue to play at this level.
“We can challenge for the championship. With many games remaining, including another fixture against Bullets and two against Silver, there is still a long way to go,” said Harrison.
Wisdom Mpinganjira of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC was awarded the man of the match title for his outstanding performance.
The draw between the Blantyre giants on Saturday allowed Central Bankers Silver Strikers FC to retain their position at the top of the league table with 25 points from 11 games, despite their 1-1 draw against Chitipa United FC at Civo Stadium in another thrilling encounter.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC currently holds the second position with 22 points, while their crosstown rivals, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC, have secured 19 points from an equal number of games.
Chitipa United FC occupies the fourth position with 17 points, having managed to collect seven points from matches against the top three teams.
They defeated Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium and claimed a 1-0 victory over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC in Karonga.
In their fixture at Civo Stadium, the rookies held Silver Strikers FC to a 1-1 draw, with goalkeeper George Chikooka receiving the man of the match award for his exceptional performance.
In other Saturday fixtures, Rookies Extreme FC continued their struggle in the league with a 2-0 loss to Moyale Barracks FC at Mzuzu Stadium, marking their eighth loss of the season.
Red Lions FC secured maximum points in the dying minutes of the game, defeating Karonga United FC 2-1 after what seemed like a 1-1 draw.On Sunday, Ekwendeni Hammers FC is set to face Blue Eagles FC at Mzuzu Stadium, with Ekwendeni Hammers having dominated their opponents in the past two seasons.
