Africa-Press – Malawi. Volleyball Association of Malawi (Vam) president James Kaunda has said Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) president Bouchra Hajij’s visit will raise the profile of the local game.
Kaunda was speaking after Hajij met several top government officials in Lilongwe Friday.
Hajij also toured Griffin Saenda Sports Complex later paid a courtesy call on Youth and Sports Minister Uchizi Mkandawire.
Kaunda said the visit will help the corporate world to appreciate that volleyball is one of the big games being played in the country.
“It is not always that you have someone leading a continental body coming to your country to appreciate what you are doing on the ground. We have only been meeting her during international conferences. But this is a big opportunity for us to show everyone that our game is also big and needs support. That is why she will also watch our national volleyball finals sponsored by Raiply,” he said.
Kaunda said Hajij will visit Raiply today and plant a tree before proceeding to Mzuzu to watch the games at Katoto Courts.
CAVB reported on its Facebook page that Hajij is on a working visit to Malawi.
“Ms. Bouchra Hajij, president of the CAVB, began a courtesy visit and working meeting with Mr. Hon Uchizi Mkandawire, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Malawi,” part of the report reads.
