Africa-Press – Malawi. Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions Simba Bhora have signed Silver Strikers goalkeeper Charles Thom.
The former Malawi National Football Team goalkeeper has joined Simba after he declined to extend his contract at Silver as he was reportedly unhappy with lack of game time.
Zimbabwe’s leading newspaper The Herald reported that Thom was expected to make his debut this coming Saturday.
“Thom is expected to make his debut on Saturday, when the league champions face Dynamos in the Castle Challenge Cup. The team have also snapped up Namibian striker Issaka Garirub and they are currently working on his work permit,” reported The Herald online.
But Thom was not readily available for his comment Thursday.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba asked for ample time before he could comment on the matter.
“I will comment on the issue once I get all the details,” he said.
Thom struggled for game time in all competitions last season.
George Chikooka was Silver’s first choice goalkeeper whereas Pilirani Mapira was second choice goalkeeper.
The former Dwangwa United goalkeeper made headlines for good reasons when he starred for the Flames during the delayed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon.
He was named player-of-the-match as the Flames held Senegal to a goal-less stalemate at the Afcon finals.
In a related development, FC Platinum have unveiled three Malawian players, namely defender Nickson Nyasulu, midfielder Precious Phiri and striker Vincent Nyangulu.
Nyasulu declined to extend his contract at FCB Nyasa Big Bullets whereas Phiri was released at the end of his contract.
Nyangulu, who spent last season on loan at Creck Sporting Club, was released at Mighty Wanderers.
