Victor Musowa Seeks Deputy Speaker Role for Unity

Africa-Press – Malawi. Newly elected Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale Constituency, Victor Musowa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament, setting the stage for what promises to be a spirited race in the August House.

Soon after taking their oaths, MPs are expected to elect both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker—positions that will shape the tone and direction of the new Parliament.

In an exclusive interview, Musowa said he is ready to bring sanity, unity, and renewed purpose to the National Assembly.

“My goal is to ensure Parliament serves Malawians with integrity, cohesion, and inclusivity,” Musowa said.

He revealed that his decision to run followed extensive consultations with his party and former President Peter Mutharika, who encouraged him to step up and use his leadership experience to promote unity in the House.

Musowa said one of his top priorities is to amplify the voice of young parliamentarians, pointing out that a significant number of youthful MPs have made it to Parliament this term.

“This time, many young MPs have been elected. I want to ensure their voice is officially recognized through the creation of a youth caucus in Parliament,” he explained.

He further disclosed that he has already engaged international organizations interested in supporting youth leadership and development initiatives in Malawi. According to him, these partnerships will empower young legislators with the skills, exposure, and confidence to drive meaningful change.

Musowa has since appealed to fellow MPs to support his bid, pledging to use the position to strengthen parliamentary efficiency, teamwork, and accountability.

His entry into the Deputy Speaker race injects momentum and intrigue into what observers describe as a closely contested leadership election in the legislative arm of government.

An accomplished professional, Musowa pursued his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Canada and is widely recognized for championing several key pieces of legislation during his previous term in Parliament.

With his blend of experience, vision, and youthful energy, Musowa says he is ready to help Parliament “work for all Malawians.”
