Africa-Press – Malawi. In a fiery political comeback that shook Msalula Ground in Salima, veteran politician Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma delivered a blistering attack on the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), branding it an “evil party” that has betrayed its people and abandoned its founding principles.

Speaking before a massive crowd at the DPP “Thank You Mega Rally”, organized to celebrate the return of former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Nkhoma unleashed a passionate and emotional speech that drew thunderous applause from the charged crowd waving blue flags and chanting pro-DPP slogans.

“The MCP is an evil party that no longer cares about the welfare of Malawians,” she declared, her voice cutting through the excitement. “It has become a party of corruption, brutality, and betrayal.”

Nkhoma said she could no longer remain silent after witnessing what she described as the MCP’s cruelty, hypocrisy, and indifference to the suffering of ordinary citizens. Once a loyal supporter of the party, she expressed deep regret for ever aligning herself with a political machine she now believes has lost its moral compass.

She accused the MCP leadership of promoting a culture of violence and intimidation, citing the infamous “machete boys” who have allegedly been used to silence dissent and terrorize political opponents.

“The current leadership has turned a blind eye to the pain of Malawians,” she lamented. “Even the party’s own elders—those who built it from nothing—are neglected and left to suffer in silence.”

Nkhoma’s sharpest criticism was aimed directly at President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, whom she accused of arrogance and insensitivity, particularly toward MCP veterans who sacrificed everything for the party’s rise.

“Many of our elders are dying poor and forgotten,” she said. “President Chakwera has no compassion for those who paved the way for him. The MCP today is not the party of justice and unity we once knew—it is a party of self-interest and deceit.”

In stark contrast, Nkhoma showered praise on Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, describing him as a leader of empathy, humility, and integrity. She hailed Mutharika’s leadership as one rooted in compassion and national unity, even toward his political adversaries.

“President Mutharika showed true leadership when he personally ensured that the late Right Honorable John Tembo—an MCP icon—received medical care when his own party had forgotten him,” she said to a roaring crowd. “That is the mark of a true statesman.”

Nkhoma said such acts of humanity define Mutharika as a servant leader—one who values people over power and compassion over politics. She credited his inclusive approach for keeping Malawi peaceful and united during his tenure.

“Malawians are tired of oppression, corruption, and lies,” she declared passionately. “With Professor Mutharika’s return, I believe Malawi can once again rise—strong, honest, and prosperous.”

As the rally drew to a close, the atmosphere was electric. DPP supporters danced, waved flags, and chanted Mutharika’s name, calling his comeback a “new dawn” for the country.

For many in attendance, Nkhoma’s words echoed a powerful sentiment: that Malawi’s hope lies not in fear and division, but in leadership that listens, cares, and unites.
