Kalindo Warns Rights Groups on Protests Over Albinism

Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi First president Bon Kalindo has urged human rights organizations to refrain from demonstrations, accusing some civil society groups and opposition parties of politicizing attacks against persons with albinism.

At a press briefing on Saturday, Kalindo said Malawi First strongly condemns what it describes as coordinated political schemes exploiting the suffering of people with albinism for partisan gain.

He argued that the attacks are a national tragedy that demands unity and cooperation, not political maneuvering aimed at undermining the democratically elected government of President Peter Mutharika.

Kalindo said Malawians are able to distinguish genuine advocacy from efforts designed to destabilize the country, warning that Malawi First will expose organizations it believes are acting in bad faith.

He commended the government for engaging stakeholders on security concerns and other national issues, including recent fuel price hikes, and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all citizens.

Kalindo also condemned planned demonstrations by some civil society groups, describing them as attempts to incite unrest under the guise of activism.

He called on civil society organizations to work with the government to end the attacks on persons with albinism and appealed to Malawians to uphold peace, stability, and national solidarity.
