Africa-Press – Malawi. The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Corporations and State Enterprises says it will carefully examine the proposed disposal of assets at the National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef) to ensure that public resources are protected.
Committee chairperson, who is also Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota Central Constituency, Sylvester Ayuba James made the remarks after members toured Neef’s Mponela premises to inspect agricultural inputs and irrigation materials that have been earmarked for disposal.

Ayuba James said the visit enabled committee members to assess the condition of the assets and understand the circumstances that have led to the proposal of the items.
“We have made the assessment and we, as a committee, will sit down and discuss [issues pertaining to] the way forward.

“Our interest is to ensure that any action taken is in the best interest of Malawians and that public resources are not wasted through hasty decisions,” Ayuba James said.
He, however, lamented challenges in warehousing and office space, which he said was affecting how Neef manages its stock and equipment.
“What we have seen today gives us a clearer picture of the situation at Neef but the committee must still review all facts before taking a position on the [issue of] disposal [of assets],” Ayuba James said.
On her part, Neef spokesperson Elizabeth Mapemba said items that are set for disposal include fertiliser, seeds, agro-chemicals, solar-powered water pumps and irrigation pipes.
Mapemba further disclosed that the total estimated value of the equipment and inputs exceeds K15 billion, representing a significant public investment.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, Neef Chief Executive Officer Kayisi Sadala met with members of the committee and told them that the institution was in the process of disposing of agricultural inputs and irrigation materials following over-procurement and other factors, noting that the inputs were deteriorating.
The development comes after approval by the board to revert the institution’s name to Malawi Enterprise Development Fund.
