Africa-Press – Malawi. By Isaac Salima:

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has described sexual and reproductive injustice as not only a social but also legal failure.

MHRC Chairperson Chikondi Chijozi said this in Blantyre during the launch of the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Network.

CHILEMBA—It is about the right of every person“[Therefore], the establishment of the organisation marks a milestone in this journey. The commission recognises that we cannot fulfill our enforcement role in a vacuum.

“By collaborating with the network, we will enhance our capacity to hold duty-bearers accountable and ensure that the voices of the most marginalised are heard,” she said.

The network’s chairperson Milliam Chilemba said sexual and reproductive justice went beyond access to health services.

“It is about the right of every person to make informed decisions about their bodies, lives and futures,” she said.

The network has 20-plus members.
