Four people have died in a road accident that occurred in Chilanga area, Balaka District.
Machinga Police Station officials asked for ample time before they could provide details on the issue while Machinga District Hospital spokesperson Wongani Nyirenda said the number of people who had been pronounced dead during the time of the interview was four.
Nyirenda said the number of casualties was still being reported at the district hospital by the time of the interview.
“Let me confirm that four people were confirmed dead,” he said
Police officers privy to the issue indicated that the number of people involved in the accident was 72.
“All patients are receiving treatment in wards while others are about to be discharged
after observation,” Nyirenda said.
One of the eye witnesses, Group Village Headman Chibwana- Nsamala, said the accident involved two lorries, one of which was going towards Mangochi Boma while the other one was heading towards Mangochi Turn-off.
