Africa-Press – Malawi. Industry and Trade Minister Vitumbiko Mumba has described a new cooking stove manufacturing plant in Chiradzulu District as a significant boost to Malawi’s economy.

During his visit to the Burn Manufacturing Company facility on Friday, Mumba expressed satisfaction with the Kenya -based company’s $5 million investment, which has created 85 jobs for Malawians.

The company has a production capacity of 50,000 energy-efficient stoves per month.

Mumba said the facility represented more than just local production.

“I am impressed and happy that this company chose Malawi out of other African countries because they see Malawi as a safer place to invest in. They want Malawi to be the focal point for reaching Zambia, Zimbabwe and, possibly, Mozambique,” Mumba said.

The factory produces stainless steel cooking stoves that are significantly more efficient than traditional clay alternatives.

The technology concentrates heat onto cooking pots, allowing the same quantity of fuel to cook multiple dishes while reducing charcoal and firewood consumption.

Factory Manager Nandkishor Parekh said the company specialises in energy-efficient cooking solutions with environmental benefits.

“Our products use less charcoal and provide more cooking efficiency, which means reduced carbon emissions and health benefits for users,” Parekh said.
