Africa-Press – Malawi. An eighteen-year-old Abdul Rahman Javeed is facing prosecution for causing death to a Limbe pedestrian. Javeed is said to have killed a pedestrian in car racing by reckless driving.
According to a police report in our possession shows that on Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2023, Javeed was driving towards the direction of Royal Motors in Limbe, Blantyre.
“As he intended to overtake a motor vehicle he hit a male pedestrian identified as Hassan Chimasula, 32, from Mchinjo village, traditional authority Mlumbe in Zomba district.
“Upon the accident, onlookers ganged up with the aim of assaulting the driver, Abdul, who drove off from the scene immediately. The matter was then reported to Limbe Police by his father,” reads part of a police report.
The police report adds, “Traffic police officers then took the victim to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where he was admitted. Unfortunately, Chimasula died the same night.
“The deceased’s body was only identified on Monday this week and his remains were buried on Tuesday”.
Limbe Police station publicist Aubrey Singanyama has confirmed the incident saying Abdul has been charged with causing death by reckless driving contrary to section 126 sub-section 4C of the Road Traffic Act.
The driver has since been issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution and will appear before the court soon. “He was brought to police and had a statement taken from him. Meanwhile, his motor vehicle has been impounded by the Police awaiting Road Traffic officers to examine it,” he said. Javeed hails from Kanjedza Township in Traditional Authority (T.A) Kapeni in Blantyre.
