ACB should not be used to victimise innocent people, says Atupele

Africa-Press – Malawi. Former president of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Atupele Muluzi says the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) should not be used to victimise innocent people. The former Minister of Lands made the remarks this afternoon after being questioned by the bureau in Lilongwe.

The questioning centred on allocation of plots at Bwaila in Lilongwe which are linked to United Kingdom-based businessperson Zuneth Sattar who is alleged to have bribed various politicians.

In an interview after appearing before the ACB, Muluzi said the bureau has a lot of cases to work on and should not be used as a tool for attacking innocent people in Malawi.

He, however, added that he is not worried about being implicated in any wrongdoing. “I walk freely because I know I have never done anything wrong or worked in a manner that would raise suspicions,” said Muluzi.

Earlier, Muluzi’s supporters blocked him from entering the offices of the bureau to be interrogated something which was condemned by various social media commentators.
