Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga continues to hog the limelight in the Italian women’s Serie A, where she is in the best 11 for this week.
Chawinga earned her place in the top 11 after scoring in Inter Milan’s 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Saturday. It was her 10th goal since joining the Italian giants on loan from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda.
The goal saw the former DD Sunshine superstar maintain joint top spot in the goal scorers’ chart, placing her in the running for the golden boot award.
According to Serie A Women’s league website, Chawinga is leading the chart alongside Kosovare Asllani of AC Milan and Juventus Ladies’ Lineth Beerensteyn.
The achievement is quite remarkable for the Malawian as she is the only African female player on the list. Chawinga said she wants to help her team win the league title.
“The title race is really tough but we are still in it. We will continue fighting for the title,” she said.
The Scorchers skipper is enjoying a career of her life in the Italian Serie A Women’s league where she was named Player of The Month for September. The award helped her bag the best African female player in Europe accolade.
The Malawian is no stranger to winning awards as she lifted the Chinese Women’s Super League golden boot award three times besides top-scoring in her debut season with 17 goals.
In her five seasons in China, Chawinga won the Player-of-the-Season award twice. Inter Women are currently third in the league with 25 points from 13 matches, eight points behind leaders Roma.
