Africa-Press – Malawi. Struggling TNM Super League side Blue Eagles has recalled Schumacher Kuwali, who was serving an indefinite suspension. Eagles suspended Kuwali on disciplinary grounds last month after some incidents bordering on indiscipline.
The suspension coincided with Eagles’ struggles in the top flight league which saw them registering four back-to-back-losses. The losses included an FDH Bank Cup round-of-16 defeat to Mafco on post-match penalties.
The policemen finished the first round with a barren stalemate against Mighty Tigers at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday. Following the poor performance in the first round, the club’s management met on Tuesday to map the way forward.
It is understood that one of the resolutions which were made was the return of Kuwali to the team. Head coach Eliya Kananji confirmed the development, saying it will bring stability to his lineup.
“We are gearing up for the second round and we need all our top players. Finishing as relegation candidates in the first round is not good for a team like ours. But I am confident that we will come back stronger.
“We resumed training on Tuesday and we welcomed back our captain Kuwali on this day. I am happy that management has decided to lift the suspension. Kuwali is our top player and I am sure you will see a changed Blue Eagles in the second round with him in the team,” Kananji said.
Kuwali said he was ready to help Eagles escape relegation. “I am back in the team and ready to make my contribution towards its success. It was disappointing to see the team failing to win matches after last season’s top performance when we were title contenders, finishing second to champions Bullets.
“We are all working hard to ensure that we win as many games as we can in the second round. The relationship with my fellow players is quite good and we are ready to win for our beloved club,” he said.
The law enforcers open their second round campaign with a showdown against second-placed Silver Strikers at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday. Eagles finished the first round on 13th position with 16 points from 15 matches
