Africa-Press – Malawi. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) got its wish Friday after Confederation of African Football (Caf) accommodated the team to a different hotel in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Initially, Caf had allocated the Flames to lodge at the same hotel (Mont Febe) with their round of 16 opponents, Morocco, after they relocated from their Bafoussam base to Yaoundé ahead of the round of 16 tie on Tuesday.

However, the association expressed concern with Caf’s arrangement. In an interview from Cameroon, leader of delegation Tiya Somba- Banda, who is also Fam executive member, said they were relieved after Caf accepted their request.

“We asked Caf to relocate us to a different hotel and we are glad that they moved us to another hotel,” Somba-Banda said in a written response.

Fam is on guard against match-fixing related activities hence asking Caf to lodge at a different hotel. The Flames camped in Bafoussam for all the group matches.

Caf is responsible for accommodation and internal travel for all the teams in Cameroon. Flames Interim-Coach Marian Mario Marinica had also earlier expressed concern over the sharing of the lodging with their opponents.

“Great thing, we have managed to change the hotel,” Marinica said. Marinica said the players were in good mood.

“We have some logistic hindrances. As we are travelling all day [Friday] changing camp to Yaoundé. Thus, no training on Friday. But the spirits are high and we are ready to start again the hard work as soon we all settle,” he said.

During the group stages, the Flames started with a 1-0 loss to Guinea but recovered to beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in the second match before a goal-less stalemate against Senegal.
