Central region football teams protest against affiliation fees’ hike

Africa-Press – Malawi. Central region Football teams which play in Chipiku MK15.5 million premier Division and division one leagues are protesting its football governing body’ resolutions of hiking affiliation fess. The resolutions were made during their Executive general meeting which was held on February 12, 2022.

As per communication released by Central Region Football Association (CRFA) which has been signed by the body’s general Secretary Bernard Harawa, CRFA resolved that;the affiliation fees for both leagues has been raised including Premier division from the current MK270,000 to MK300,000 while for the division one, teams are expected to pay MK270,000 from the current MK250,000.

The Annual General meeting to be held on March 12,2022 and lastly the new season to kick off on March 27, 2022. However, the teams have shown some dissatisfaction with some of the resolutions and these teams are Wimbe United from Kasungu, Ekas Freight Wanderers from Lilongwe and Simbi FC from Mchinji.

Kastern Zimomo Mwanza and Esther Chirwa who are the Technical Director for Simbi FC and Ekas Freight Wanderers team Manager respectively concurred that CRFA was supposed to hold the Annual General meeting before raising the affiliation fees saying there are some challenges which teams are currently facing which the association has to address.

“Before raising the fee we were supposed to be communicated may be at the general meeting, I believe they have their own reasons for doing this but they had to consult teams first. We are ready to go on 27th March but on the format to be used. I think we must discuss at the AGM because the one which we used last season was good as teams didn’t spent much on transport but it had it’s challenges to be looked into”, Chirwa was quoted.

“As one of football administrators,I see CRFA has rushed in hiking the fee, they were supposed to call the teams for the AGM to evaluate how last season was ran because it had problems too, then bringing in the issue of the fee. It’s the only good place to discuss about any new development. As Simbi FC we are ready for the new season,” Zimomo Lamented.

“The hiking of the affiliation fees is a big challenge to the teams as they are still facing financial crisis due to the effect of the global pandemic COVID-19. Some teams are individually Sponsored other being sponsored by companies which they are not making profits hence I expected CRFA to reduce the fees not increasing it at this time.

“We should adopt the last season format as it was a very good one where teams were grouped in zones and all teams honored their fixtures because they didn’t spend much and we saw more competitiveness amongst teams”, James Mataya explains. Dedza Dynamos were the 2020/2021 season Chipiku Premier division Champions while Joseph FC won division one.
