Chakwera faces public lash over MK1.4bn Orton Chirwa Mausoleum

Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawians on social media are rebuking President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government plans to construct Orton Edgar Ching’oli Chirwa’s Mausoleum in Nkhatabay.

They have described as nonsense claiming that Malawians are suffering due to economic crisis that have rocked beyond the poor reach . Malawians are surprised with Chakwera decision to spend MK1.4 billion on a Mausoleum amid the citizens suffering.

The public lash comes after Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture published a notice in the daily papers indicating approval of the tender results awarding a contract to a joint venture of Hema Construction Limited and Central Construction Group

“I pray for an immediate cancellation, investigation, Hema Construction profile and experience published and whether the family has been consulted on the contractor,’’ observes Kambeta on his facebook wall.

The citizen claims that at the date of BID OPENING Hema Construction Limited’s price was MK998,485,643.60 and the contract was awarded at a price of MK1,401,128,524.20, a development which is posing many questions than answers.

Idrissa Ali Nasser adds that an NGO called Good Neighbors has used MK200 million to build a whole new school in Kasungu plus four good houses for teachers.

“MK1,401,128,524.20 for a Mausoleum? We are led by a Government of corrupt, of shame, of less thieves, sadists and Satanists,’’ he says.

Mpamba social media user chips;. “The tombstone is a nonsense to be constructed amid economic misery. It’s a death-trap everyday people are losing their lives.

“We need real developments in Nkhatabay bwana, we did not ask you to build a tombstone, give us double- lane bridges, nice schools with classroom blocks, please”.
