Africa-Press – Malawi. BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday, February 24, 2022 arrived home from long stay trip in Brussels and Switzerland where he was attending AU-EU Summit.

Landing at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe, Chakwera was welcomed by the Vice President Saulos Chilima and other cabinet ministers.

During his working week abroad, Chakwera had no time to rest as he was engaged in various bilateral and Multilateral talks aimed at increasing developmental support Malawi and other SADC countries, especially in the wake of the devastation COVID-19 pandemic and Moderate Tropical Storm.

Among other bilateral and Multilateral talks, Chakwera on February 20, 2022, Chakwera met representatives Malawians based in Switzerland to discuss various ways they could support Malawi’s development.

During the discussions, Chakwera interacted with the representatives on various topics including how Malawi could benefit from health, trade, human rights, digital transformation, and humanitarian interventions in Malawi.

The Malawi leader welcomed various suggestions including on supporting Malawian youths to get internships, improve health services delivery, and employment promotions.

On February 21, 2022, Chakwera met Human Rights Council President Federico Villegas, at Palais de Nations where he articulated Malawi’s Vision of her membership to the human rights council, the human rights situation in Malawi and capacity gaps in key human institutions in Malawi.

On the same day, president Chakwera met the Acting general Secretary of the World Council of Churches Loan Sauca where the two discussed how the WCC is supporting counties around the world including Malawi and how it will continue to do so in areas such as peace and security, combating gender-based violence, and economic and ecological justice.

He never rested, on February 23, 2022, Chakwera met Executive Director of the Global Fund in Geneva, Switzerland Peter Sands, to discuss cooperation in the health sector.

Chakwera appreciated Support the Global Fund has been rendering in the fight against TB, HIV, Malaria, and in recent months, against COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the the devastating impact of Moderate Cyclone Ana which has disrupted the delivery of health services in the country.

Before taking his rest from all these busy and tiresome schedules he had abroad, on Friday February 25,2022 which is just a day arriving in the country, the leader will be on road again to attend the launch of National Tree Planting Season on Mponda Hills in Mponela in Dowa District.
