China pledges to train 120 agriculture experts

Africa-Press – Malawi. Agriculture experts from China are expected to train 120 Malawian agriculture experts ahead of the introduction of mega farms. The experts will be trained in the production of rice and all crops.

Speaking during the opening of the training at China Technology Centre in Lilongwe, Ministry of Agriculture Director of Extension and Planning Services Alfred Mwenefumbo said the training has come at the right time as the government has finally introduced mega farms.

“The training will promote rice production as well as the production of other crops. We have also negotiated with the Chinese government on the resumption of rice schemes in Nkhata Bay and Machinga districts,” Mwenefumbo said

He said the Chinese have the capacity to train farmers in modern technology use. On his part, Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy Zhang Chunfa said the government of China is committed to helping Malawi produce quality crops.

“The experts that are coming have all the expertise in mechanical engineering and they are in the country to help it meet its agriculture development goals,” he said.
