Chipiku League: Silver Reserve still salivating for title

Africa-Press – Malawi. The Young Bankers who showed intent of winning the Central Region Chipiku Premier Division league for the first time have started losing its rhythm as they had had a sloppy start of the second round.

The McDonald Yobe side, have lost three games in a row in the second round. Silver first suffered a 2-0 defeat over average LUANAR on 26th November courtesy of Willy Kawinga and Andrew Mapemba goals.

The Area 47 based outfit who won the Nyasa Capital Finance Cup after defeating Namitete Zitha a fortnight ago, were shamelessly beaten 1-0 by another underperforming Leyman Panthers. Saint Chikwawe scored the lone goal.

The sky blue side were on Sunday defeated 2-0 by Kawinga through Arnold Son Kiyama and Frank Phiri goals to descend to third position and lost the top slot which they occupied for so long.

However, Head coach of the club McDonald Yobe is upbeat of winning the league despite sloppy start in the second round. He also attributed the Sunday’s defeat against Kawinga to poor officiation.

“We have lost the game today but it’s because of the poor officiation, referees spoiled the game. It hurts to spend days preparing for the games but at the end you encounter this type of officiation”,

“We didn’t come for the party today but referees played a role, it happens in a game of football but we will bounce back in the remaining games. With seven games to wrap up the season, I am upbeat we will win the championship”, Yobe said.

Currently, the Young Bankers are now sitting on position three with 31 points from 15 games. Kawinga ascended to second with 32 points whilst the Jackals of Namitete, Zitha lead the table with 34 points from the same number of games played.
