Africa-Press – Malawi. Capital City giants Civil Service United have signed a year-long kit sponsorship agreement with Fuchs Oils Distributors Limited. Through the agreement, Fuchs has already provided home and away kits for Civil’s 2022 season. The jersey has Fuchs logo on the chest.

Civil started using the Fuchs branded kit during the Lilongwe derby against Silver Strikers which ended in a 1-1 draw at Silver Stadium last week. Fuchs will also provide other equipment to the club. Announcing the news in Lilongwe, Fuchs Chief Executive Officer, Henry Jambo said the company has passion for football.

“When Civil approached us, we did not hesitate as it is an opportunity for us to give back to the community and also develop sports. Football unites us and also creates employment,’’ Jambo, whose company is the sole distributor of Fuchs products in Malawi said.

Fuchs has huge presence in South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia Lesotho, Namibia and DR Congo. On his part, Secretary to the board for Civil, Rashid Ntelera said the sponsorship has reduced the burden on the club.

“We were panicking that we have to procure uniforms on our own as clubs but Fuchs came to our rescue. This is a timely relief,” Ntelera said.

Before the start of the season, TNM plc and Super League of Malawi (Sulom) gave the clubs freedom to get their own kit sponsorship. TNM relinquished kit sponsorship and redirected the funds to the prize money which will see the champions pocketing K40 million this season.

In professional leagues across the world, kit sponsorship is one of the main sources of generating revenues for clubs. Several Super League clubs have already secured kit sponsorship. Other clubs that have kit sponsorship include Kamuzu Barracks, Red Lions, Mafco, Mighty Tigers and Rumphi United.
