Africa-Press – Malawi. The National Football Coaches Association (NFCA) has secured a one-year partnership worth K3 million with sports consultant firm MMM Sports Plus.
The partnership will see the company sponsoring coach of the month and coach of the year awards in both men’s and women’s football.
The winning coach will get K150,000 cash plus miniature worth K100,000.
The coach of the year will pocket K500,000.
MMM Sports Plus Commercial Director Alice Munthali said the company wanted to change the plight of coaches.
“Most of you will agree that coaches are the backbone of football. They dedicate countless sleepless nights preparing training sessions, devising game plans, and nurturing talent.
“Yet their efforts often go unnoticed once the final whistle blows- only outstanding players of the match are recognized.
We aim to change that narrative. We want coaches to be appreciated and celebrated alongside players,” Munthali said.
Munthali said the partnership would be renewed depending on the transparency and fair execution of it.
“This one-year agreement is flexible and can be renewed at any point, mid-season or at the end, depending on the circumstances, because this partnership is designed to be mutually beneficial,” she said.
Munthali said the company believes in recognising hard work and success.
NFCA chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni hailed the company for the timely sponsorship saying it would motivate the coaches.
“This is a landmark partnership and we are really excited. We urge our coaches to exercise discipline on-and -off the pitch,” Nankhuni said.
The winners will be selected based on team performance and discipline among others.
A team of coaches and selected journalists will be responsible for selecting winners.
MMM Sports Plus is a Malawian company which is expected to open a sports shop at Grand Business Park in June this year.
