Africa-Press – Malawi. Resident Magistrate’s Austin Banda on Friday granted bail to Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (Mips) president Alinafe Banda Malisawa and Divine Excellence owner, Grace Kusani.

They appeared in court to be formally charged after their arrest by the Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB)

The charges included performing functions corruptly, abuse of office, neglect of official duty and uttering false documents.

In a ruling, the court said it expected that both accused would not interfere with witnesses or tampering with evidence.

Bail conditions for Malisawa included cash bond of K2 million, two non-cash sureties bonded at K10 million each, must surrender her passport to the court and required to report to the ACB offices in Lilongwe every fortnight on Thursdays.

For Kusani, the conditions included a cash bond of K700,000 and two non-cash sureties bonded at K3 million each, must surrender her passport to the court and report to the ACB offices in Lilongwe every fortnight on Thursdays.

In the case, it is alleged that Malisawa directed procurement officers to sign delivery notes before receiving goods and authorised Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) for payments to suppliers prematurely.

She is also suspected of endorsing payments before delivering goods, violating her duties as a procurement officer.

On the other hand, Kusani is being accused of allegedly forging quotations from companies like Allu-Tech Aluminum Systems and Carports International.

It is said she presented these forged documents to deceive Parliament into awarding contracts to her company, Divine Excellence.

ACB arrested the two suspects earlier last week.
