Dedza Dynamos stops Bullets for title race: TNM Super League

Africa-Press – Malawi. The chase for the 2023 TNM Super League title intensifies as Dedza Dynamos FC breaks FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC 1-0 to delay their championship. Dedza Dynamos forward, Clement Nyondo, scored with just one minute into the game with a tap-in from a well-taken free kick by Lameck Gamphani.

Nyondo took his tally of goals to 15 to increase his chances of winning the Golden Boot. The home team started on a high note from the on-set with Clement Nyondo, Lameck Gamphani and Alex Benson combining well and attacking with precision.

Alick Lungu’s long-range effort in the 10th minute was well dealt with by Dedza goalkeeper Donnex Mwakasinga. Patrick Mwaungulu came closer to level for the Bullets in the 22nd minute but his powerful shot was again saved by the goalkeeper who was a marvel to watch.

Before the close of the first stanza, Precious Phiri’s header missed Mwakasinga’s upright with an inch. Dedza’s shot-stopper made another great save from Maxwell Gasten and soon the half ended.

In search of goals at the beginning of the second half, Bullets tactician Kalisto Pasuwa made changes as Blessings Mpokera replaced Precious Sambani, and Ephraim Kondowe came in for Lanjesi Nkhoma.

The home team, however, ignited fire the same way they kickstarted the first half forcing Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba to make two great saves in succession.

In the 70th minute, Ernest Petro could have equalized for the Bullets but his effort was saved by Donnex Mwakasinga. Stanley Billiat and Hassan Kajoke replaced Maxwell Gasten and Chawanangwa Gumbo in the 77th minute.

All efforts from Kalisto Pasuwa’s side went in vain as Dedza Dynamos FC defended their slender lead until the last whistle. Bullets failed to break the jinx of not winning any Super League match at Dedza Stadium since the facility started hosting elite football.

The win has taken Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar FC to 7th position with 38 points from 29 games and they are confirmed to stay in the league. Their last game is against Ekwendeni Hammers FC away in Mzuzu.

Despite the defeat the defending Champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC are still on the summit with 56 points from 28 games and they are tied for 56points with second-placed Silver Strikers FC who also claimed a late 2-1 winner at Bingu National Stadium against Kamuzu Barracks FC.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC has scored more goals 47 conceding 18 with a goal difference of 29 while Pieter De Jongh’s side has scored 40 and conceded 17 with a goal difference of 23 and they are remaining with an away fixture in Blantyre against league leaders the Red Army.

The Red Army, however, have two fixtures to wrap up the season against Karonga United FC away and home encounter against Silver Strikers FC. From the two games, the Bullets just need two points to retain the Championship.

At the Kamuzu Stadium, the Nomads were left Wondering after playing to a goalless draw against Mighty Tigers FC. With a game to go Wanderers are third with 55 points. Wanderers to win the league, must pray that their crosstown rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC and Silver Strikers FC lose their remaining games.
