Africa-Press – Malawi. A 60-year-old Jeputala Chipokosa has been arrested in Lumbadzi for allegedly committing an offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 238 of the Penal code.
The suspect, who is Group village headman Manondo committed the offence on January 3, 2022 at Manondo village. It is alleged that he fought one of his subjects over a land issue. The complainant has a garden which was left to him by his late father.
The suspect wanted to grab the said land by force prompting the complainant to take the matter to Senior chief of the area who ruled in his favor. On the material day, the complainant while cultivating in the garden, was attacked by Chipokosa who forced him to vacate the land.
He assaulted the complainant with a weapon known as club (Nthonga) while the son of the chief also joined in assaulting the innocent victim. However, the matter was reported to Lumbadzi police who invited the culprit on several occasions but he defied, hence his arrest.
The suspect will appear before the court of law soon. The accused Jeputala Chipokosa hails from Manondo village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mkukula in Dowa District.
