Africa-Press – Malawi. As Muslims mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan and prepare to celebrate Eid, a time defined by compassion, sharing and care for the less fortunate, 4,000 Kanjedza sisters in Blantyre have received food packs and buckets from the Faizal Global Relief Foundation (FGRF).

The distribution, held at Kanjedza Primary School in Blantyre on Thursday, forms part of the organization’s wider Ramadan outreach which has reached thousands of vulnerable households across the country.

FGRF Director of Communications Ibrahim Omar Mataya said the organisation deliberately targets women, recognizing their central role in sustaining households.

“A woman is the one who keeps the home together. When we support women, we know the assistance will reach the children and the entire family. That is why we want to empower them in their own way,” he said.

Mataya said the timing of the distribution was intentional, ensuring that beneficiaries can celebrate Eid with joy and adequate food in their homes.

“As Muslims, Eid is a time of happiness. We want our sisters to also experience that joy by having something in their homes,” he explained.

He added that FGRF’s Ramadan outreach has so far touched over 30,000 families translating to over 150,000 individuals across Malawi, both directly and indirectly.

“That is not a small number. We are overwhelmed with joy that we have managed to reach so many people. We pray that we continue reaching more until we help end poverty and empower communities,” said Mataya.

He emphasised that while the Kanjedza event marks the final major distribution for Ramadan, the organization’s work will continue beyond Eid.

Abida Mia, who graced the occasion, commended FGRF for its consistency and impact, saying the initiative continues to uplift communities year after year.

“Having this donation just at the end of Ramadan is very important. We would like to appreciate FGRF for always coming through for us. For many years they have been assisting the Kanjedza sisters and so many people across the country,” Mia said.

Mia further called on other well-wishers and organizations to emulate such efforts, stressing that collective giving, no matter how small, can transform lives.

A beneficiary, Linda Buliyani, commended the initiative, saying the support has come at the right time and will allow her family to celebrate Eid with dignity.

“We are very thankful to FGRF for remembering us during this important time. This support has enabled us to prepare for Eid and celebrate just like others. It means a lot to us as women and mothers because it will directly help our families,” she said.
