Africa-Press – Malawi. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is yet to decide on the future of former Malawi National Football Team assistant coach Lovemore Fazili, who has a running contract until next year.

The decision to appoint Romanian Marian Mario Marinica as Flames coach, replacing Meck Mwase, means Fazili faces an uncertain future. Marinica was given the freedom to choose his backroom staff and it is likely that he will bring a fellow expatriate coach in Fazili’s role.

It is also expected that the other assistant trainer will be Malawian. Fam Technical Sub-committee Chairperson Tiya Somba-Banda said Fazili’s fate would be known soon.

“It depends on whether Meck wants him at the Under-23 national team or Mario wants him at the senior team,” Somba- Banda said.

Fam has redeployed Mwase to the Under-23 national team but he is yet to accept the offer. The reserved Fazili declined to comment on the matter when contacted Thursday.

“I am an employee of Fam; so, I will not be comfortable to comment on the issue,” he said. Fazili and Mwase have been working together since 2018 when they were at the Malawi Under-20 National Football Team.

When Mwase was promoted to the Under-23 side in 2019, Fazili was also maintained as his assistant. Apart from Fazili, Mwase had former Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira as one of his assistants. However, Mpinganjira has no contract with the association.
