Africa-Press – Malawi. FDH Bricks, sponsored by FDH Bank plc, have been crowned champions of the Southern Zone Basketball League (SOZOBAL) Men’s Division One after a commanding 69–56 victory over Crazy Warriors in the final.

Speaking after the triumph, Team Manager Khama Mtalimanja attributed the victory to lessons learned from last season’s heartbreak and a more deliberate, focused preparation.

“After losing in the finals last season, we took time to reflect, draw lessons, and set clear goals. The team stayed disciplined in executing its strategies, and this win reflects the progress we have made. It also puts us firmly on track as we prepare to compete for the national championship,” he said.

Mtalimanja added that attention now shifts to the upcoming national finals, where the level of competition is expected to intensify.

“Preparation has been key to our success, and we will maintain that same approach. We know the national stage will be tougher, but our work ethic and discipline will carry us through,” he said.

FDH Bank plc Marketing Manager Tiyese Kaimila said the victory underscores the bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting sports development and nurturing talent.

“This win reflects the team’s discipline, consistency, and strong execution on the court. As FDH Bank, we remain committed to supporting sport as a platform for talent development and community engagement, and we are confident the team will perform strongly at the national level,” said Kaimila.

In other results, Battle Hurricane secured third place in the men’s category after defeating Mikoko 64–47. In the women’s division, Lady Hurricane clinched the title with a 106–94 victory over Mikoko Mystics, while Kukoma Eagles claimed third place after beating Sparks 54–32.

The BASMAL National Championships are scheduled for May and June this year, where FDH Bricks will look to build on their regional success and challenge for national glory.
