Africa-Press – Malawi. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi has launched the Forum for Women Accountants (Fowama), an entity aimed at bringing together female accountants and advancing professionalism.

The forum, launched on Friday, would be operating under Icam in protecting the accountants’ charter, status, interests of female members while promoting high standards and professional conduct.

Minister of Labour Vera Kantukule graced the launch in Blantyre, where she highlighted the importance of men and women working together if the nation were to achieve greatness. She urged members to be a positive force in the fight against fraud and corruption in the country.

“Those who are in a profession which deals with the proper functioning of a country’s economic life must play a positive, constructive role in performing their daily work,” the minister said.

Fowama President Akonda Supuni Yakobe said the objective of the forum was to create a networking platform for female participation in the accountancy profession.

“We target to empower women, ensuring the transferring of critical business knowledge and skills and help develop a pipeline of future female leaders who understand the skills and attitudes required to succeed in the professional world,” she said

Icam President Phyllis Kachingwe urged the female accounting practitioners to be in the fore in fighting corruption. “Never limit your aspirations. The sky is the limit,” she said.
