Africa-Press – Malawi. A fertilizer manufacturing company under construction in Dowa is projected to commence production by April next year, bringing hope to Malawi’s agricultural sector.
Owner of the company, Napoleon Dzombe, says per hour, the factory is expected to produce about 40 metric tonnes of fertilizer, making enough commodity for the whole country in just 150 days, highlighting the plant’s potential to meet national demand.
The installation of manufacturing machines has already been done, with construction works expected to be completed by January 2026, indicating significant progress on the project.
Dzombe, founder and managing director of Mtalimanja Holdings Limited, added that the idea to establish the fertilizer manufacturing plant is to ease scarcity of the commodity on the market, addressing a long-standing challenge in Malawi’s agriculture.
The factory will also help reduce costs incurred when importing fertilizer into the country, potentially benefiting farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.
The local production of fertilizer is expected to enhance Malawi’s food security and support economic growth, making the Dowa plant a significant development for the country’s agricultural sector.
With the plant’s production capacity, Malawi could reduce its reliance on imported fertilizer, saving foreign exchange and creating opportunities for local farmers.
