Africa-Press – Malawi. The Flying Lions from Parachute battalion, Airborne Rangers FC on Sunday lacked marksmanship as they failed to hit targets being their fellow Rangers from Area 36 at SOS Vocational Center ground.
Airborne Rangers FC have suffered the first defeat of the season in the MK15.5 million Chipiku Premier Division league. The flying Lions were beaten 0-1 by Green Rangers FC from Area 36 who on their side happen to have registered their first victory of the season.
Vincent Chirwa scored for the hosts at 2nd minute of the first half after beating Airborne Rangers FC defence. The hosts started the match on a high note and dominated the play at the midfield at the same time getting the lion’s share of ball possession.
Second half it was a balanced game which saw both teams creating scoring chances but their center attackers lacked composure and marksmanship as at the same time the goalkeepers from both sides Kenneth Nankhwema and Japhet Semba, were outstanding saving dangerous attempts.
Despite the defeat the Salima-based side, Airborne Rangers FC still lead group B with 32 points from 13 games played so far and already qualified to the second round.
They will play Villa FC from Mchinji at home Airborne ground in their first round last game. Villa are on position 4 in the group with 18 points from 12 games.
Green Rangers FC have managed to collect 8 points from 13 games. Anchoring the group, they are remaining with one game against Wimbe United FC who lost points over the weekend to Mchinji Boma Strikers FC for not showing up to wind up the first round.
Mchinji Boma Strikers FC has now ascended to position three (3) with 19 points from 14 games. Mbabvi United FC is leading group B with 26 points after finishing their first round games with a 2-2 draw with Simbi FC, Silver Strikers Reserve FC have chances to finish on top of the group if they win their remaining two games.
The Young Bankers have 23 points from 12 games,on position 2 following their 1-0 win over Dwangwa United FC on Saturday, St Gabriel Medicals are on third position in group B with 22 points from 13 games and on position 4 are Dwangwa United FC who have 21 points from 13 games.
Ngwanje FC defeated Kasungu Police 0-3 to go top of group A with 23 points from 14 games. 2021 runners up, Extreme FC descended to second position with 22 points from 13 games while Kawinga FC occupies position 3 with 21 points from 13 games.
There is a big battle between LUANAR and Play Football Malawi as both have played 13 games and are tied up on 20 points. Milius Pofera Jegwe’s side are sitting on position 4 on better goal difference.
But one team has to sneak to the top 4 in its last game. LUANAR FC has ignited fire in the last games of the first round as they registered another ruthless win over Dedza Young Soccer 5-0 on Sunday.
The first round of the MK15.5 million Chipiku Stores Premier Division league will end on 18th September, 2022 with the top four teams from the three groups making it to the second round of the competition.
