Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi National Football Team winger Francisco Madinga has signed a two-year deal with Botswana’s Premier League side Galaxy FC after leaving Georgian side Dila Gori.

Incidentally, Madinga had been linked with a move to South Africa’s National First Division side, Polokwane City. The player’s manager Gift Mkandawire said Madinga impressed Galaxy after assessing him.

“It didn’t take more than a week for Madinga to impress Galaxy. Immediately after signing the deal, we also received an improved outright offer from another club but we couldn’t take it as he had already signed for the Botswana side.

“We are hopeful that he [Madinga] will flourish. I wish the young boy all the best as he takes his new challenge,” Mkandawire said.

The former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers attacker joined Gori in 2019 where he scored some important goals for the club. Meanwhile, Wanderers former team manager Steve Madeira has disclosed that Polokwane were interested in signing Madinga.

“When we were making arrangements for his travel to South Africa, we heard that the Botswana club had signed him. Polokwane would have been a better option as they are on the verge of earning promotion to the top flight league,” Madeira said.

Last season, Galaxy finished third in the Botswana Premier League with 62 points as Gaborone United won the championship with 72 points. Town Rollers were second with 66 points.
