FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers registered vital victories in their respective matches Wednesday to keep up the pace in the TNM Super League title race.
Bullets claimed a 0-1 win over rookies Ekhaya FC at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre whereas Wanderers defeated Songwe Border United 0-2 at Karonga Stadium in Karonga District Wednesday.
At Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji District, TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers claimed a 1-2 win over Creck Sporting Club.
Following midweek’s matches, Bullets maintained top spot with 27 points from 10 matches, one point above Wanderers.
But the win over Creck has pushed Silver to fourth place with 18 points, dislodging Blue Eagles.
Eagles are fifth with 16 points from 10 matches.
Back at Kamuzu Stadium, Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju marked his 100th appearance for Bullets with a crucial goal. Adepoju netted the only goal of the match in the 57th minute with a powerful header after Henry Chiwaya’s freekick.
Bullets coach Peter Mponda felt the players deserved the victory.
“Credit should go to the players even though it was tough. They kept playing the same way we started. Ekhaya did not give us too much pressure,” Mponda said.
Ekhaya coach Enos Chatama said, despite the defeat, his players executed the game-plan well.
“We closed the spaces and it was good. Bullets played well but never threatened us. They scored from a dubious freekick,” he said.
At Karonga Stadium, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Blessings Mwalilino were on target for Wanderers.
After a barren first half, Mpinganjira broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before Mwalilino sealed all the three points in the 79th minute.
Following the win, Wanderers have returned from the Northern Region with four points after a 1-1 stalemate against Karonga United on Sunday.
So far, Wanderers are the only unbeaten team in the TNM Super League.
Elsewhere, Silver moved two points within third-placed Ekhaya.
Uchizi Vunga netted the opener for Silver but an own goal from defender Nickson Mwale pulled Creck level in the 60th minute.
Six minutes later, Binwell Katinji scored the winner for Silver.
On the other hand, Creck remain on position eight on the log table with 14 points.
