Africa-Press – Malawi. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam) has said digital transformation will be among thematic areas at this year’s annual conference slated for this weekend in Mangochi. The indaba, which starts on Thursday, will be held under the theme Digitising the Malawi Economy and Stepping into the Future.

Icam Director of Education and Training Chrissy Jere said the theme has been chosen to reflect how Covid pandemic has exposed the importance of technology in different sectors and professions.

She said this in Blantyre Monday when FDH Bank donated K5 million to the institute for the meeting. Jere said speakers at the conference will, among other area, zero in on the status of technology in Malawi, challenges and solutions

“We felt the need to make sure that accountants are up to date with current trends in technology. Therefore, experts will deliberate on how ready Malawi is for automated processes and look at challenges and find solutions,” she said.

Jere then thanked FDH Bank for the support, saying the financial institution has proven to be Icam’s true partner. FDH Bank Head of Finance Richard Chipezayani said the listed financial institution understands the importance of such conferences in promoting professionalism and national economic development.

“The conference is very important and, as a bank, we are always passionate about digital. So this helps to improve efficiency and as an economy we can benefit from such,” he said.
